This is the first of three didactic courses designed to progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required of nurse anesthesia educators. Students examine foundational principles of teaching and learning, including adult learning theory, instructional design, learner-centered teaching strategies, and educational technologies used across classroom, clinical, and simulation environments.
Students explore the professional role of the nurse anesthesia educator, with emphasis on ethical, legal, regulatory, and professional responsibilities, including FERPA compliance, ADA accommodations, academic integrity, and professional boundaries in teaching and assessment. Focus is placed on developing foundational educator competencies in fostering inclusive learning environments, supporting learner development, and promoting critical thinking.
This course contributes to the Professional Nurse Educator Portfolio (PNEP), a longitudinal portfolio that documents progressive achievement of nurse educator competencies.
This course is conceptually integrated with Nurse Anesthesia Educator Practicum I. Didactic concepts are applied through guided observation, supervised teaching experiences, and structured reflection in the practicum. Together, the courses support progressive development of educator competencies by connecting educational theory with authentic teaching experiences across classroom, clinical, and simulation environments. The PNEP is developed across both courses as a continuous representation of professional growth.
